Purradise Cat Cafe Kuala Lumpur

We had a great time at the cat cafes in Korea and lucky for us we found a cat cafe in the Kuala Lumpur-Petaling Jaya area as well: Purradise Cat Cafe. In some ways, I would say this one was even better than the ones in Korea.

Saving Cats from the Streets

One great thing about Purradise is that the cats are taken from the streets, fosterers, and shelters. I asked the owner about it and he told us one of the cats actually just walked right up to the place, asked to be let in, and made themselves at home. So precious! And it reminded us of our dear Bodhi. I was rather fond of this cat before he even told me its story. You can also adopt these cats from the cafe and give them homes. I think this is the best way to run a cat cafe.

Purradise also has a pretty good website. You can see pictures of the kitty residents on the Purradise Cafe Website. Aren’t they sweet?

On to our visit. The cafe was actually not too far from our Airbnb and was only a short Uber drive away. It is located in a sort of outdoor/strip mall type area. These types of things are popular here. There are a couple other cat cafes in the area but they were all quite a bit farther from us as far as we could tell.

The Cafe

Shoes Off!

The driver dropped us off in the area and we found Purradise. It was located on the second floor. Like Korea, Malaysia is a place you sometimes need to look up. We made our way up there, went inside the first door, took off our shoes, and went inside.

The cafe operated similar to the others in that you pay a fee which includes a drink and spending time with the cats. It was different from the others in that the initial fee covered the first hour and there are small additional fees for time spent past that period. Thus, you pay at the end. It was 15rm per person (~$3.60/person exchange rates 2/16) and we each got a smoothie. (The menu says 12rm which is the price for an additional smoothie.)

Delicious Drinks

I got Purr by the Beach and it was delicious. Kyle got Mango Meownia and it was pretty good too. They actually have food options as well including sandwiches (even a vegetarian option) and dessert!

Happy Cats

I think the entrance fee is a pretty good deal seeing as you get a smoothie and playtime with kitties. We stayed for our alloted one hour. There is a extra fees are per additional 15 minutes and you can waive 30 minutes of fees by purchasing something else to eat/drink and also have the option to get an unlimited number of hours at the cafe for RM39 (~$9.38 with current exchange rates 2/16).

You can also get group discounts and monthly packages. They have free wifi which is an advantage if you want to do some work there. There is a stamp card as well which they gave us but we were not going to be there long enough to return. After so many visits, you eventually get a free day (or something like that).

On to more things I enjoyed about this cafe. In regards to the set up, the place seemed pretty cat friendly. They had places where cats could spent time above you and jump around, “grassy areas,” beds, scratching areas, bean bags, and more.

I enjoyed swinging on a bench there. The decor was pretty cute. The man (I’m just going to call him the owner, though I’m not positive) working there gave us toys to use to play with the cats.

Good Care for the Kitties

Two of my favorite things (aside from them taking in strays, the decor, etc.): the water and the litterboxes. The water looked like it was clean and fresh and always available. I don’t know what happens if you unplug it but I hope it is always running like that for the cats. I don’t think I saw any cats drink from it though which I found a little odd seeing as there were many cats and you would think one would be thirsty during that time but perhaps I just missed it. And.. I could finally find the litterboxes!

I found one hidden in a wooden house-thing which was pretty discrete and a good idea. We also saw a little hole in the wall somewhere else that lets the cats escape to another room where it is possible there is another litter box.

There was one woman in there who appeared to have come to work on her computer and ordered some food. Well, one of the kitties, according to the owner “loves chips” (again we are reminded of sweet Bodhi) and was after it. It was quite funny though the kitty had to be trapped into a smaller area until the food was finished (it did not seem to mind, though).

Stubby Tails

Another thing we noticed was that many/most of them had bent or stubby tails. We asked the owner about it and he said it was very normal to see in the cats there. We had noticed it in a few strays out and about as well. Based off of research this is common in Thailand and Indonesia also.

We had a nice time petting or playing with all of the kitties who were awake- that is a rule at every cafe: don’t disturb sleeping cats.

She woke up.

They all seems like very nice cats. I think we saw more interactions between the cats here in terms of playing though none of them seemed to be lap cats. There was this sweet Persian that just lovedd attention and purred and purred though.

It was a good day at the Purradise Cat Cafe which definitely recommend.

Though I would reconfirm before visiting, these were their posted hours.
