Remicone Ice Cream and Sinsadong

After we were done at Changdeokgung Palace, we headed down to Gangnam again, but this time to the Sinsadong Garosu-gil area for a treat and to explore a little. Our “treat” destination this time was Remicone.

On a Quest for Remicone Ice Cream

We took the metro to the Sinsa Station and began our journey to look for it. We went the wrong direction (about a mile or so the wrong way) before turning around. At least we did get to see more of the Garosu-gil area, though and saw some Christmas decorations!

Eventually we made it to Remicone. This place is known for making some pretty interesting dessert concoctions but even the shop itself is pretty unique looking.

It’s a Mad Scientists Lab, for Ice Cream

It looks like some kind of scientific laboratory. Little cookies and powders and other things can even be ordered in vials.

I think the Hawaiian Beach and the Thunder Bomb are their two most popular dishes but there are other options and you can even construct your own ice cream (by telling them what you want).

We ordered the Thunder Bomb and shared it.

The Thunderbomb

It Was Great

In terms of composition, the ice cream is vanilla or milk-flavored, at least according to what I could find online. Kyle was convinced it was something different but I think the milk just tastes different here. Everything tends to be whole milk to a higher percentage. To me, everything just tastes a little sour. Overall, we both liked the ice cream, though. It also had pop rocks in it (I think they called it explosive sugar or something like that).

The only thing is, we didn’t know that until we started eating it so it was kind of interesting to start eating something and then suddenly something is happening in your mouth. It makes sense, though. I think it is supposed to represent the thunder or lightning so the ice cream is kind of an experience. Sitting on top of the ice cream is gray cotton candy (cloud) with a little yellow lightning bolt stuck on it. We hope the lightning was edible because we ate it. It didn’t have any particular taste.

The cotton candy was good. It had a mint or peppermint flavor to it. I enjoyed the ice cream cotton candy combo.

Further Exploring Sinsadong

After we were done eating we explored a little while heading to the station. We passed a big plastic surgery place. Seoul is actually the plastic surgery capital of the world and Gangnam has a very high concentration of places for plastic surgery.

South Korea actually has more per capita plastic surgeries than any other place in the world. We also passed a place called the Simone Handbag Museum which I had seen online and was semi-interested in but Kyle really did not want to go and it cost money so we didn’t. For other people I would keep it in mind as something to do in Sinsadong.

Magical Winter Decorations

There were many different department stores and shops in this area as well. Many were decorated for Christmas. One store which we went into (which I had also read about) was the Line Friends Flagship Store.

I didn’t know a lot about it but it looked cute! There was a store and a bakery. If we hadn’t just gotten ice cream we may have gotten a sweet treat.

We also saw some other dessert places that I’d really like to try. I knew about them but knew we would just get one dessert. Maybe another time.
